Tips for Building Custom Fly Rod
Building a multi-piece fly rod isn’t difficult, but like other projects in custom rod building, a little advice goes a long way.
From mounting grips and reel seats, to planning out guide spacing, wrapping ferrules, and answering what weight will work best in your fly fishing application, the guys from Mud Hole Live are bringing all the answers straight to you.
For instance, building a multi-piece rod requires each ferrule, or conjoining section of the blank, to be reinforced with a thread wrap. Ferrule wraps increase the hoop strength around the blank’s multiple connection points to prevent cracks, splinters, and other damage that can occur while fishing.
