The ideal option for minimalist fisherman, Fuji’s SK2 Reel Seat brings one of the most sensitive, lightweight, and versatile reel seats on the market. The skeleton seat construction gives rod builders the ultimate freedom to customize and personalize their handle assembly.
Fuji’s Concept and Construction of the SK2 Reel Seat
Custom fishing rods serve as an extension of ourselves. From the desired fishing applications to the blank options and every other component or color choices in between, each decision comes together to form the fishing rod we’ve always imagined. One of the many benefits behind custom rod building is obviously the ability to tailor each component based on your personal fishing preference.
For instance, Fuji wanted to conceptualize a skeleton reel seat that could optimize performance and style while minimizing its overall weight and bulk on the rod blank. From this idea, Fuji’s SK2 Reel Seat was born.
The SK2 fulfills its design purpose by supplementing the natural feel of the rod blank while increasing both the angler’s casting control and sensitivity for hook setting. Arguably the most popular skeleton seat on the market, Fuji’s Sk2 Reel Seat brings a lightweight and organic feel to any handle assembly. A minimalist’s dream, the SK2 is 54 percent lighter than other conventional reel seats.
What’s even more impressive is that at roughly half the weight, the SK2 doesn’t sacrifice any performance while harnessing and maintaining the reel foot. The sturdy construction of Fuji’s SK2 Reel Seat provides a strength and performance anglers can always trust.
Fuji’s SK2 has a minimal construction that also allows for maximum sensitivity and control. Providing optimal blank exposure with full contact on the rod itself, the SK2’s Reel Seat works wonders whether you’re looking to improve your casting, hook setting, or overall fishing performance.
Proper Installation Ensures Highest Performance
Fuji’s SK2 Reel Seat relies on a fixed hood to complete its construction. For the fixed hood, the barrel thread section is measured out with the reel foot and then mounted directly onto the rod blank. The reel foot slides into the bottom portion of the SK2 and then the hood tightens over top of the reel foot’s opposite end on the barrel threads.
Popular primarily for its skeleton seat construction, it is important to install the fixed hood correctly. If the open gap between the bottom of the reel seat and its separated top portion becomes too large, the reel foot may slide out from under the hood. Since the SK2 has a fixed hood, the proper installation of this segment keeps the reel foot mounted and secured.
As you fish, the reel foot is often compressed down. This is easily accounted for during the installation of the fixed hood, simply apply the barrel thread on the rod blank so that your reel foot reaches a little more than half way over the barrel thread. Then, even if the reel foot compresses, the hood can still maintain control of the reel. Ensuring the reel is always attached and protected, the fixed hood keeps you reeling in fish with trust and confidence.
There are four possible hood options, which are the Standard, Hidden Thread Sleeve, BACK STOP™ Lock Nut, and Hidden Thread Sleeve & BACK STOP™ Lock Nut.
Here’s more information on each hood for Fuji’s SK2 Reel Seat:
The Standard Hood screws down to tighten into place and protect the reel foot mount on the rod blank. With Standard Hoods, remember to trim down any exposed barrel thread that extends past the hood with a fine-tooth hacksaw or a dremel tool.
Hidden Thread Sleeve
In addition to securing the reel foot to the reel seat, the Hidden Thread Sleeve functions as protection for the barrel threads and a mount for the foregrip. This hood allows anglers to keep their reels safe while using the extended portion for the grip assembly.
BACK STOP™ Lock Nut
A double-nut system that features a floating collar between two locking nuts, the BACK STOP™ Lock Nut is designed to perform. This hood system secures the reel foot so that if either of the two locking nuts loosen, it creates a pushing force that causes the floating collar to tighten over the reel foot.
Hidden Thread Sleeve & BACK STOP™ Lock Nut
Incorporating the best of both designs, the Hidden Thread Sleeve & BACK STOP™ Lock Nut provides the easy mount for a foregrip as well as the unique double-nut system to maintain constant control over the reel.
